  • "Starting a team" refers to offering the program to a group of 8-16 girls at a location or site near you. This team will be part of the Girls on the Run Greater Cincinnati council.
  • Designate a site liaison to serve as the program location contact (see the responsibilities of a site liaison below). This person will champion the program at your site; it is often the head coach.
  • Review the "Start a team at your site" packet for detailed information about our programs and bringing one to your site.
  • Gain approval from the site administrator, like your school principal or director of the community center.
  • Recruit three to six volunteer coaches; all coaches must complete GOTR coach training prior to their first season of coaching. Click here to learn more about coaching.
  • Create a consistent practice schedule on two non-consecutive days; if your site is a school, right after school is often best for families but do what works best for your location.
  • Identify a safe, dedicated outdoor space (ideally with 1/4 mile lap) and an indoor space (for inclement weather) to run the program that will be available on those dates/times.
  • Complete a site application - application for the Spring 2025 season due Dec. 6.

    • The Spring 2025 program dates: Feb. 17 - May 10.

    • For 12 weeks, girls will experience interactive activities such as running, playing games and discussing important self-empowering issues.

    • The program utilizes a whole-person approach to elevate emotional, social, mental, and physical health.

    • The program concludes with all participants walking, running, skipping or rolling in a 5K celebration on May 10th.

    • We offer our program to all girls regardless of their ability to pay. We provide financial aid for families depending on their household income and household size. GOTR is for ALL GIRLS!

    • We provide volunteer training for all coaches.

    • Materials and curriculum for each season are also provided.

    • Marketing and registration materials are offered to help each site promote the program.

    • Your site will receive ongoing support from GOTR Cincinnati’s council staff.

    • Site Applications are due by Friday, Dec. 6, 2024.

What is a Site Liaison?

  • Acts as the main contact at the site for Girls on the Run families/participants and Girls on the Run council staff before and throughout the program.
  • Helps identify three to six coaches from the community for each team*.
  • Aids in team member recruitment efforts by distributing marketing materials (offered by Girls on the Run) and spreading the word about Girls on the Run throughout the site community and via email using provided digital templates. This helps ensure there is a full team for each season at this location.
  • Offers support to families who need assistance with registration process.

*If you are struggling to secure coaches, we might be able help through our volunteer pool.
