Running with Purpose as a GOTR SoleMate

SoleMate and Volunteer Annie Hensley's journey with Girls on the Run Greater Cincinnati is as inspiring as it is impactful. A dedicated runner training for her 12th marathon, Annie's passion for running began in junior high, where she discovered the empowerment and freedom it brought into her life. This personal growth resonates deeply with GOTR's mission to nurture young girls' confidence, teamwork, and emotional development through running.

“While the Boston Marathon stands out as a pinnacle race experience, my goal as a SoleMate transcends finish times. My primary aim is to honor the spirit of what GOTR represents—perseverance, joy in movement, and community support. This upcoming Boston Marathon will be my 4th time running this historic course, but running it as a SoleMate gives it new significance. My challenge is to embody the values I hope to inspire in GOTR participants: resilience through difficult miles and celebrating the journey rather than just the destination.” Her efforts help to fund and support GOTR programs that empower young girls, much like her younger self, to discover their potential.

Her community’s support of her personal fundraiser has been overwhelming, with friends and family rallying to donate and share their own stories of how GOTR has touched their lives. "It's incredibly moving to see everyone unite behind a common mission that empowers young girls," she shares.

For Annie, supporting GOTR's mission means creating lasting opportunities for girls to thrive. She sees this as a way to give back and create a foundation for young girls to build confidence, relationships, and emotional resilience that will last a lifetime.

"Running has been a transformative force in my life—teaching me discipline, resilience, and the power of community," Annie reflects. As she prepares for the Boston Marathon in April, every stride is a step towards empowering the next generation, making her miles matter more than ever.

THANK YOU, ANNIE, for your steadfast dedication to GOTR girls all over the tri-state. We appreciate your generous spirit and cannot wait to cheer you to Boston’s finish line this year!
