Girls on the Run Greater Cincinnati is Expanding to Pendleton County

Girls on the Run Greater Cincinnati is expanding its service territory to include Pendleton County. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that teaches key life skills to girls in 3rd through 8th grade through dynamic discussions and fun games that creatively integrate running.

Run may be in the name, but Girls on the Run is much more than stretches and lap goals. In this after-school program, participants of all abilities learn to embrace their inner strength, make meaningful connections, and give back to their communities. Here, girls learn skills that shape them into tomorrow’s leaders, with 97% of participants reporting they learned things at Girls on the Run that are important to them.

This fall, Girls on the Run Greater Cincinnati will host a 3rd -5th grade team at Southern Elementary School and a 6th - 8th grade team at Phillip Sharp Middle School. Teams of up to 16 girls will meet twice a week after school, beginning the week of September 11. Online lottery registration will be open from Monday, August 21 through Wednesday, August 30. Registration placement will occur via a lottery system on Friday, September 1. Visit www.gotrcincinnati.org/locations to learn more.

"My daughter has learned to speak up for herself and be respectful of others. She also learned to be confident in herself. It is a great program, and we are grateful for it." – Participant’s Guardian

For schools or community centers interested in starting a team, the Spring 2024 site application will open in October 2023 and the season will begin in February 2024. Current sites include local schools, community centers, churches, and hospitals. Each site must have a volunteer site liaison, a safe space for physical activity and be able to provide both outdoor and indoor meeting locations. At each site, volunteer coaches lead small teams of girls through research-based curricula that include lessons on confidence, treating others with care and contributing to the community. During the ten-week program, girls complete a community service project and become physically and emotionally prepared to participate in a celebratory 5K event.
